LIFE AND LIMB

Life and Limb, established in 2013 by Sam Johnson, is an organization dedicated to serving the needs of amputees throughout India by providing the highest quality of prosthetic limbs to them. To date, Life and Limb has donated 204 limbs, at an average cost of about $2,000 per limb. There are thousands of amputees, across all ages, who have lost their limbs because of circumstances beyond their control. Diseases and traffic accidents are the most common reasons for these tragedies. Those who lose their limbs are often unable to perform basic day-to-day tasks like dressing themselves or traveling and are unable to provide for themselves or their families.Medical care and health insurance are nearly non-existent in rural parts of India, such as Kerala, so amputees from impoverished families are not only ostracized, but face insurmountable emotional and financial challenges. Moved by the needs and limitations of the many amputees in Kerala, Sam Johnson-who was born in India's southern state-partnered with Ottobock, a leading manufacturer in the prosthetic industry. The original goal was for Sam and his family to support ten amputees each year by providing them with free limbs. However, the demand has increased year after year, leading to the transformation of the organization. As of 2018, Life and Limb began accepting public donations and has been growing rapidly ever since. Life and Limb has set an ambitious goal of supporting 100 individuals in need of 115 prosthetic limbs on December 14, 2024.

Our mission is to provide individualized care and support that will enable the thousands of amputees in Kerala and help bring them one step closer to regaining control of their lives.
